Phosphate Induced Metal Stabilization

using Apatite II

Radionuclides

Apatite II is particularly good at sequestering certain radionuclides, particularly U, Pu and Ra. Apatite II is not affected by redox conditions or sorption poisons such as high concentrations of nitrate or organics, so that it is effective for mixed-waste applications. Depending upon the situation, such as PRBs or large treatment tanks, if the residence time of the water in the Apatite II is large enough, then the system will be reducing which can remove other contaminants, such as Cr+6, separately from the phosphate reactions.
